The purpose of this group is to create a trusted environment of collaboration for those with responsibilities in the area of IT/IS security management at Canadian Universities.
Objectives
- To share information, experiences, knowledge and activities with others withresponsibility for IS/IT security.
- To provide a secure forum to enable members to seek advice from others.
- To identify and disclose best practices for information security at Canadian universities.
- To seek opportunities for collaboration in information security initiatives in areas of commonality across universities. Examples of information security which are relevant to this group include: awareness and training, security incidents management and reporting, security assessment programs, copyright infringements, business continuity planning and disaster planning, legislation and compliance, Policy development, governance, etc.

Who Should Join?
IS/IT security managers and those who perform or coordinate these functions in any Canadian University.
Commitment & Meetings
Primary communication means will be:
- Periodic phone meetings will be scheduled regularly (cancelled if there is not sufficient material to discuss). Meetings will be no more than one hour in length and agendas will be finalized and posted in advance. Minutes will be posted after meetings also.
- Listserv e-mail communication with the group
- Web
- Face to face meetings can be set as required (preferably around conferences such as CANHEIT and security specific conferences)
How to Get Involved
Universities that are members of CUCCIO are encouraged to appoint a representative to the CUCCIO Security SIG. If your University does not yet have a representative, simply have the CIO/IT Director send the name and e-mail address of the representative to Debbie Jones at debbie@uwo.ca.
